Thomas Tropea entered commercial real estate in 1993 by joining the real estate investment trust behemoth Equity Office Properties, Inc., as a financial analyst. During his tenure he was groomed and trained to direct financial oversight of regional property operations for Equity.
In September 1995, Mr. Tropea accepted a vice president - controller position for a subsidiary of Thomas Enterprises, Inc., a start-up commercial real estate management company known as Merchants Management, Inc. In this capacity, he directed all company and asset financial management. In addition, he acted as client liaison for the firm and cultivated private and public client relationships to further business development and expand the firm’s management operations. Merchant’s Management flourished and at the pinnacle of the company’s success, he directed financial management for assets exceeding 7 million square feet valued at over 700 million dollars.
In December 1999, Thomas joined the ranks of Merchants Management’s parent as Vice President when the decision was made to internalize the asset and property management functions of its operation. In addition to maintaining oversight of the subsidiary, Thomas’ new responsibilities put him in the lead role in the discipline for Thomas’ portfolio in its entirety. Mr. Tropea is daily engaged actively in maximizing the portfolio’s financial and operational value.
As Thomas Enterprises’ portfolio continues to expand into new Mixed-Use developments including Lifestyle, Power and Mega-Power centers, Mr. Tropea leads the charge in overseeing the asset management and property management functions for the firm. He has B.S. degrees in both Accounting and Political Science from The California State University (Cal State).
